The birth of Speed Xplosion Athletic Club

Speed Xplosion Athletic Club is a South African running and track organisation based in KwaZulu-Natal. The roots of Speed Xplosion can be traced back to the growing athletics community in the uMngeni area. At the time, large number of athletes were coming from Impendle Athletics Club, while the uMngeni side had not yet developed into an independent athletics club.

Instead, the athletes from uMngeni were affiliated with the municipality and participated under the uMngeni name. This provided a foundation for athletics in the area, but there was a growing need for a more structured and independent club that could bring athletes together and create greater opportunities for development.

The Beginning of a New Club

in 2008, Impendle Athletics became increasingly active, creating greater interaction and collaboration with athletes from the uMngeni area. This growing relationship brought athletes from the two communities together and laid the foundation for something new.

Through this collaboration, the idea of establishing a new athletics club began to take shape. What started as a coming together of athletes and a shared passion for the sport ultimately gave birth to Speed Xplosion Athletics Club.

The formation of Speed Xplosion marked the beginning of a new chapter in athletics in the region – one built on community, collaboration, determination and a shared pursuit of excellence.

From these beginnings, Speed Xplosion would go on to establish its own identity develop into a club driven by the belief that every athlete has the potential to achieve more.

Since its inception, the club has produced provincial champions, national champions, world championship qualifiers, and record breaking performances.
